Description:
The Mares Dual ADJ 52X was developed as an entry-level regulator in the Mares
range but how many entry-level regulators do you know that has a compact
balanced diaphragm first stage and an ultralight technopolymer second stage with
a pneumatically assisted design? Mares doesn't make a travel-specific regulator
but the Dual ADJ 52X ticks all the boxes at a very competitive price.
The 52X uses a balanced diaphragm design housed within a compact pearl chrome
plated body with a difference. The 52X uses a unique channel on each side of the
first stage which acts as a water funnel, drawing water along the surface of the
body and helping to conduct the cold generated by the first stage into the
surrounding water and pushing it away, replacing it with a continual flow of
warmer water. This is one of the features that help the regulator meet the
stringent testing required to conform to the British Standard 8547:2016 at a
depth of 200m.
The first stage also features four low pressure ports and two high pressure
ports, all at pre-determined angles to offer optimal hose routing. It is also
fitted with Mares's first stage sealing system - AST - to ensure that water and
other contaminants can't enter the system when the regulators aren't pressurised.
The Dual ADJ second stage has much in common with its more expensive sibling
second stages but uses a lightweight technopolymer material. It still has the
trademark bypass tube and pneumatically assisted design that delivers air flow
directly to the mouthpiece rather than losing efficiency whilst it swirls around
the second stage. A breathing control gives the diver the option to fine tune
the regulator performance during the dive.
Mares regulators have a two-year service period but advise that they are
visually checked annually and fine-tuned by an authorised service centre to keep
them in optimal condition and performance.
